Over the years this is a question we have been getting frequently. The name ZONE BLEUE is Edith's idea and Peter was quick to buy into the idea. We know the name is a mystery to most, French guests get an association to areas where you can park for free for others it can be something completely different, the suggestions have been many.
When we left our hectic lives in the Netherlands it was also a conscious decision to change our lives, live healthier on all levels and with different life priorities. Peter is often heard saying to guests, that he "exchanged corporate bull shit with real bull shit” when moving to France (and with cows grassing in the neighbor fields). People living in BLUE ZONE's became our inspiration. A BLUE ZONE is a region in the world where people are claimed to have exceptionally long lives beyond the age of 100 due to a lifestyle combining a local whole foods diet, rich social interactions, physical activity, low stress, and low disease incidence. The name blue zones derived simply during the original survey by scientists, who "used a blue pen on a map to mark the villages with long-lived population."
Author and journalist Dan Buettner have been driving a lot of the communication and publicity about BLUE ZONE's and in 2023 it even became a Netflix documentary and more public knowledge.

The robust health of these inhabitants is attributed to their diet, rich in plant products and local wines, together with strong family ties.
